Fullmetal Alchemist (Netflix)

This week saw the release on Netflix of the Fullmetal Alchemist real action movie, so that evening me and Noshi sat down and gave it a try.

Now, we both need to watch the actual anime, so I don't have a point of reference with the series to go by, which might be a good thing.

Edward and Alphonse are to young kids living with their mother.  When se succumbs to the plague, they try to bring her back through alchemy, but this goes horribly wrong.  Al looses his body, and Ed his leg, but in order to bind his brothers soul to an armour, Ed also sacrifices his arm.
In an effort to restore the body of Al, the brothers, together with their friend Winry, look for the Philosopher's Stone.  This leads themto employ theirselves in the army under guidance of their friend captain Hughes.

However, a mysterious group called the Homonculi, consisting of Lust, Envy and Gluttony, have other motives and try to thwart them at every step.  Trying to overcome the odds of a mad scientist, the Homonculi and the army itself, the struggle to save Al's body is on.

Now, we liked this film.  Period.  Take into account we where a bit cautious when starting to watch it, the Death Note monstrosity of Netflix in the back of our minds.  But this movie is still the original cast and hasn't been reworked to look more western styled.
Surely, the special effects are a bit quirky at times, and some actors have mastered the act of overacting to a great degree.  But it's good to watch, and some nice relaxing television for an evening.

And Lust is njomnjom hehehe
